Last year I taught art class to 20 fifth graders. I helped them make a journal about their life. They made a page about their personality traits, what they want to be when they grow up, their favorite color, things they love, three things they wish for, their favorite food, what they are thankful for, and their favorite thing to do.
I have helped a lot of kids make journals similar to these over the last several years. I volunteer to teach art in my children’s classes because I enjoy getting to know their friends & classmates. My kids go to a private school and their teachers have always worked so well with me, letting me come in whenever I can. I help the kids' work on their journals throughout the school year. Most of the children have a lot of fun and they are always excited at the end of the year when they get to bring them home. I always enjoy it too, except for all the prep work at home:)
did you really take a portrait for all of them? holy cow, with or without that, this project is amazing.

Their journals turned out so cute. I'm a lurker on your blog, but this post stood out to me. I love seeing all the little journals in a row. Would have loved to hear more about your opportunity to work with the kids. How did it come about? Did you enjoy the process? What was the childrens' reactions to this experience? Anyway, thanks for sharing the photos. Love your collaborations with your sisters!

I came across your blog on pinterest and am Korean. I have a daughter a little younger than your Lily. Your blog has inspired me as a mom to be more creative, to be more thoughtful about capturing precious moments, and to make more efforts to create a memorable childhood for her. It's a lovely blog :)

Very cool! I'd like to make them with my 4th graders. How big are they? Did you make all of the headings and then they completed them?
Thanks!

Your comments have made my day! Thank you so much!
Kris,
The books are 4 x 5. I covered the chipboard covers with patterned paper, made the headings, and put the books all together. The children did the rest.
